Dim Sum, TimeZone and KTV with Kai [30 August 2008]

Kai is just one of out of 2 homestays that will be living with Nancy quite permanently (til they finish university I guess) that I've met. Initially, Kai is this very, very quite person. I did not speak to him much due to the fact that he's so quiet and gentle like. I have had seen him few times on the same bus but never actually called out his name (couldn't remember at that time). A few Tuesdays ago, he remembered me and said "Hi" and I was quite taken aback since he didn't talk to me much when I dined -seldomly at Nancy's- and he actually spoke first. We started speaking in English and decided it was for the better that he actually spoke in Cantonese since it was better than in English and to be quite frank, I had to use the Smile and Nodd method for a bit since his voice was deep and soft and I couldn't understand some deeper Cantonese either. Either way, we seemed to have something in common and I asked him if wanted to go Yum Cha on the weekend and he was like "Er...have to check with my friends first". Anyways, we ended up going to Regal on Road for Yum Cha again.

I nearly killed Kai. How? I stuffed him to death! We ordered Siu Mai, Har Gun, Braised Chicken Feet, Pork Ribs, Roast Duck, Deep Fried Dumplings, Prawn Cheong Fun, Mango Pudding and endless refills of Chinese tea. Poor Kai. I think I frightened him.

After the brunch, we went to TimeZone, an arcade in Northbridge, and played a fair bit of games. At the arcade, we tried our skills with the photobooth. We FAILED. Miserably. It was not user-friendly and not to mention pricey too. So we went KTV. It's nice with 2 people, so you can enjoy some songs a little bit more. KTV for us was more like a stress-relief activity.

Case of an epic fail photobooth shot.

Yeah. So that's all to the Saturday!!!

Dim Sum with Li Ying aka Food Buddy

Yesterday night when I sent Waleed off at the airport, I received a text message from Li Ying asking me whether I want to go for dim sum. Why not eh? Since I've been craving for it for some time and had no one to go with. Went to the restaurant that Patrick brought me for lunch some months ago. Regal on Road : that's the name of the restaurant. So far, it's the best dim sum place I've been to. Knowing both of us, eating at the same place, we were bound to order ALOT. And Li Ying konon "diet". Fulamak... Reminded me of the time that we went to Miss Maud's. One can feel the weight piling on just thinking about it. Yes. It's shocking how much these two little asian women can consume.

Sniffing away with the flu bug that she's caught. And no. That ain't no halo on my head.

Some of the norms ordered during dim sum time: Braised chicken feet, Char siu Pau and Siu Mai

Egg-tart, Siu Mai and Wu-kok (Fried Yam)

My favourite! Prawn dumplings!

Another favourite: Prawn Cheong-Fun

We decided to try the Duck Cheong-fun

Leng Lui: Li Ying

Yum yum. I Love Egg-Tart!

Me stuffed, but still enjoying my egg-tart.

Oh yeah, for some reason, I bumped into some friendly people today. Strange. This normally does not happen to me. The first person appeared at the ATM machine when I was about to withdraw money. Although I arrived first, I was in another lane and this guy let me use the ATM that was in the other line. The second one was when I was walking to NorthBridge and I sneezed (kinda loudly than my usual sneeze - I've got the flu ok?) and the guy who was a meter away turned around and said "Bless you". Whadda know? There are some nice people in this world.
