Orientation in CIC

First day at Curtin International College, boy, was I frightened. Nancy, my host parent was suppose to take me to college but she was too lazy I guess. Dai, one of my room mates had to show us which bus to take. Me and another Chinese boy from Fuzhou, Leo.

Arriving at the uni's bus stop, my first impression of the uni - small. But oh! To my surprise it was huge!!! It was literally a maze, each pathway intersecting and leads you to another the other end of the school.

Nevertheless, Dai was there to guide us through. Heaps and heaps of students already congregated infront of building 205 -Curtin Int. College.
We had to seperate into 2 groups. 1 for Commerce students and 1 for Design, Mass Communication and IT students. I wondered why there was only 2 groups with such huge numbers. When the Commerce students started lining up it showed that there were heaps and heaps of people doing that course. Gees...who would have thought?

Guess what? Mass Communications students - 6. Yes..6 of us! All girls too! I made a new mate quite quickly. Rebecca - Scottish girl but citizen of Australia. You still could hear her Scottish accent quite faintly.

Anyways, each group had a mentor to show you around the campus. It was huge and it was hot. It was like 39 degrees and I'm not kidding here. It's hot and I mean hot hot hot!
Once you're in a college next to a uni, you'll never look back and say I miss high school. Why?
Everything is in the university grounds. To name a few, they have a bank, ATM machines, optometrist, pharmacy, travel agency, cafes, book shop and etc..And of course no uniform..(like duh..)

To my surprise, my mentor, Khalisah is Malaysian..Woo? Malaysia Boleh? haha well of course we conversed in English, I mean it's rude to go off in your own language and leave the others out of the conversation.

After a tour of the campus, we were dragged to the computer labs and there we had to enroll what units we wanted. My college has a system of either 4&4 or 3,3&2. 4&4 meant that you would finish in October, leaving you 5 months of spare time. However, you cannot remain in Australia for more than 2 months if you're not studying, meaning you have to go back home and re-enter. I decided to do the 3,3&2, which would finish in mid-January. It's easier, since I will only do 3 units in the first two semester and 2 units in the third. Hmm...

And oo..I love choosing what units I want cause then I will know what days I will have to come for my class. Since it's 3 units = 3 days! hehe I get Monday and Thursday off, only having classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Woo!! I think I will enjoy this. I also might apply for a working visa which will allow me to work.

Arrival in Perth

" My princess, don't be scared or cry for me. Be Strong. I'll come see you when I come back, I promise. You always long to be a big and grown girl. There you go! Just the beginning. Just study hard for your future. I want you to have a bright future with a career with huge income...I LOVE YOU. Always remember that..."

So...I've arrived in Perth and missing Mother so badly too. How bad? Bad enough to make me want to hear her nagging. I woke up at 3:10am to get ready and left at 3:55am. Arrived at Brisbane Airport at 4am, waited for half an hour in queue and then checked in.

Got to Melbourne Airport with an hour and ten minutes transit. Nothing much to do so I went to the cafe to get a filo. Ricotta and spinach..sounded yummy at first but tasted horrible, so in the end I chucked it. Got on to plane and the 4 hour journey from Melbourne to Perth..SO NOT FUN. Why? The local airline does not provide free meal or drink. Still acceptable but pay-movies? WTF? Such scungers...

Arrived at the airport and found the driver. Got my luggage and drove all the way to my homestay family. Nancy...a name you wouldn't have imagined for an Indonesian woman! Surprise surprise..she has 2 houses..the one I arrived in was the main one where she, her husband and daughter lived. The international kids had the seperate house. Me being the youngest got the largest room. =D

After a while they went out to do their things and I got stuck at home alone. The other students were at college for their orientation. Mine's tomorrow.. Some how..it just got too quiet and I thought of my Mother. I cried..thinking that it would be fun being all alone and trying to be grown up. Not really. I miss the company of mum and yes I'm attached to her. I just try to be strong and get on with life like the other international students.

"Big Girls Don't Cry"
So true. I'm still a lil child inside and maybe this is the best time for me to be more independent. Perth is a hot place for me to learn though.
Living with me in this house is Nancy's niece and her husband, both in one room. There are 2 other students, both Chinese but one from HK and the other China. Not too bad..They seem real friendly. Maybe I'll get used to it..just need to sleep on it.

Latest Update

Hello World!!!

I'm now in Blue Mountains in New South Wales. If your geography sucks, that is in Australia..you know...where Sydney is..if you still don't know..well..Get a Friggin' MAP!!

It's supposedly summer but when we got here its so cold! Something more or less like Genting Highland if you're Malaysian. Today we had a mistly morning and took so many pics.

Finally got the chance to see the Three Sisters upclose after a long heck of stairs. Honestly, I'm not a fit person as I hate exercise. So that equals me huffing and panting on the way back up the stairs!

So that's all for me now and pictures will be updated when I get the internet back on my lappy. That's gonna be a while. Oo OoH!! haha I forgot the good news! It's nothing really but finally got an opal ring. A "farewell" gift on behalf of Mother and Andrew. I think the Valentine's Day dinner tomorrow night will be more expensive than this ring though. Well that is if we do go for that dinner in that posh hotel. I'm sounding bimbo-ish aren't I? Forgive me.

Well...that's all for now and I hope to get back online soon. =)

IB Graduation of Class 2007

""Mesha has said that her greatest acheivement is completing the IB program. Here's what she said: CAS -Happy won't have to do it anymore . Extended Essay- Glad it's over. Social Life
DEAD." said Mrs. McMahon as I stood there on the stage alongside the school principle, Mr. Peach, otherwise known as Peachy within the students. My cheeks felt as if they were on fire from the embarassment. Yes. I was the only one with such a humourous speech."
So what have I been doing lately? I have been slaving away cleaning and packing and cleaning and packing. It's like a never ending bad dream. Have you ever had one of those dreams which you want to wake up but can't? Well that's the experience. You just can't get away from it.
I'm using Mother's laptop which is of most inconvenience for me as I simply do not have MSN. Perphaps Window Messanger but seriously..once you get onto Windows Live, there's no going back to Window Messanger. So I shall patiently wait for my return to the cyberworld.
The IB graduation was ironic as I did not pass the diploma. I simply completed it. Teachers and other parents congratulate me but I do not have to guts to say: I did not get the diploma.
The news for the week is that I'm going to Perth. Yes, Western Australia (if you did not know this here's the Geography 101 for the day.) I bought my ticket 2 days ago and I'm leaving Queensland on the 27th of February. Not too far I guess. Damn I still haven't been to Wet n' Wild on the Gold Coast. Another trip I suppose.
The GOOD News is that I will be going to the Blue Mountains trip and yet once again Geography 101: Blue Mountains is in NSW, that is short for New South Wales. Near Sydney..get it? It's also where Tom Cruise absailed down the side of the cliff in Mission Impossible..1 or 2..I don't know.
So that's the Good news for the time being and for all those who are Chinese or Chinese at heart I wish you a Happy Chinese New Year!!
Gong Xi Fa Chai! Ang Pau Na Lai!! XD

Vegabond

"We have to move this and put it into this box so you have to clear this out to make room. And didn't I tell you..only ONE suitcase?"
Ooopps..

Aiks! Moving again...this time to the other end of Perth. But before this extreme move of whole house in a suitcase, I have to move to Golden Beach in Caloundra. Mother nags and frets how we're not going to be able to move in time.

Michael on the other hand is not sending money yet so I cannot accept my offer..I wish I can call him to nag him to hurry up! I want to get it over with!! Tis the problem with a sponsor on the other side of the planet.
